Easter LambThe lamb is an Easter symbol with strong biblical links: Early Christians likened the joyous Christian celebration of the liberation from death represented by the resurrection, to the joyous Passover festival, which commemorates the liberation of the Hebrews from their years of bondage in Egypt.
The symbol of the lamb originally comes from the Passover, where each family killed a lamb as a sacrifice. Christians view the lamb as a symbol of Christ, the Lamb of God - a Passover sacrifice to save mankind. Decorative lambs are frequently seen at Easter time, and spring lamb is also popular as an Easter food. During the Middle Ages roast lamb became the traditional main course of the pope's Easter dinner, and in many European countries it is still the custom to serve roast lamb on Easter Sunday .
