SnowbabiesSnowbabies are cute little babies in white snow suits. They were magically created by Jack Frost, and they live in Frosty Frolic Land, along with animal friends such as penguins, polar bears, seals, and walruses.
Some of the earliest known 'snowbabies' are small figurines made in Germany in the early 1900s. In 1987, Deparment 56 started manufacturing porcelain bisque Snowbabies figurines, which proved so popular the collection has grown to include waterglobes, ornaments, hinged boxes, and Snowbunnies - snowbabies with bunny ears on their snowsuits. Snowbabies are designed by artist Kristi Jensen Pierro for Dept 56. She bases them on her childhood memories of growing up in Minnesota, and on her observations of children at play. Snowbabies make delightful Christmas gifts that are decorative year round. Porcelain bisque is unglazed porcelain, white and slightly porous, with a matte finish. Porcelain Bisque is used for Snowbabies and Snowbunnies figurines, with the features hand painted.
